They say that we give the gifts we would like to receive ourselves and in my case this is certainly true! To me, Christmas gifting is all about those little luxuries that you wouldn’t get around to giving yourself, and so I always have this at the heart of my gifting to others. I also aim to cover a range of different types of gifts, so, something for the dressing table, something for the wardrobe, something for the soul and something for the home all come together to create the perfect compendium of gifts.
In my opinion wish lists are imperative to Christmas. We know we are all gong to be spending our money on each other so far better to ensure it’s on something the recipient actually wants then gift them something they will never enjoy for the sake of ‘surprise’. However I tend to make a big list, not because I am demanding or expect even half of it to be under the tree but instead to ensure that same childlike excitment on the big day.
Here’s the top 10 things (in no particular order!) making my personal list this year…..
1. ‘N’ Liberty wristlet bag. Liberty London £150
You’ll remember me discussing this a couple of weeks ago when I covered them at Liberty press day in July. (See here) Still firmly at the top of my Christmas wish list!
2. Frends Layla Headphones. Selfridges £159.99
I’ve asked for these the past two years to no avail. Dear Santa please get the hint! These super cool super stylish headphones are right up my street and may even finally make me rid the clutter of all my cds and upload some music onto my iPhone.
3. Silk Pyjamas. The White Company £159.
During our Hygge month I discovered just how much I love lounging at home in lovely pjs so, these gorgeous printed grey ones I spotted at The White Company Christmas press day, will go down a storm on Christmas evening, once I’ve served everyone and can relax myself in front of a good book! (See 9)
4.Le Métier De Béaute Foundation.Space NK £117
Doing our job means getting to try all kinds of amazing products. This was within my VIP goody bag at the Space NK press day and I was also able to meet the brand director. I fell in love with this as its the perfect party the foundation won the most amazing glittery finish but it’s pricey and I’m saving my last squidge for this years Christmas party.
5. Alexander McQueen Card Holder. Alexander McQueen £145
How delicious is this gorgeous leather card holder from Alexander McQueen?! It’s perfect for pulling out our business cards during LFW and I love it’s vintage snakeskin look.
6. Dyson Hairdryer. John Lewis £299.99
I haven’t used a hairdryer for about 2 years now for two reasons. The first is that I am lazy/always in a hurry and so have got used to tucking my wet hair behind my ears and love my natural wave once it dries naturally. The second is that hair dryers are so darn heavy and difficult to use. This one is light as a feather (well, almost) and looks so slick.
7. Dipytyque Candle. Space NK £42.
When you have 4 kids rushing out to spend £40+ on a candle can seem just too indulgent as there’s always something more important to spend it on. Christmas therefore is the perfect time to be treated to one of these iconic candles and the glass jars are reusable afterwards for make up brushes or pens.
8. Ellie Mac Embroidery Patches. Wolf & Gypsy vintage & shopify £25
The perfect stocking filler for fashionistas and each of these are hand created by Ellie using a vintage Singer sewing machine, in limited edition numbers making them practically collectors items. Plus they are now sold at my favourite vintage store Wolf & Gypsy Vintage in Brighton.
9. Fashion in Film Book by Christopher Laverty. Laurence king Publishers £30.
Christmas isn’t Christmas for me without receiving an amazing coffee table book on one of fashions great designers. I am a fashion historian after all, so this for me is like porn! I look forward to Christmas evening when I can sit down with a large glass of wine or baileys, dig into the cheese board and lose myself in the world of fashion, in the same way my children look forward to waking up Christmas morning and seeing what Santa has left under the tree.
10. Bella Freud ‘1970’ Gold Jumper. Selfridges £290.
Bella Freud’s most iconic knit with cult following including Kate & Alexa, now has been updated in this jazzy gold for the AW16 season. As close to a Christmas jumper as I will ever get and will be worn over and over until thread bare!
