As always, Edeline Lee is on our Must See list for London Fashion Week. We love seeing the designers collections emerge and grow from season to season, joining them in that journey. The SS17 collection of course, did not dissappoint. Edeline Lee hosted her London Fashion Week presentation at Elm Lesters Painting Rooms, a great and very popular venue for presentations over the years.
Created for the ‘future woman’ Canadian born/London based designer Edeline Lee showcased her collection on models standing in front of textured London inspired photographs by artist Kyung Roh Bannwart, it made for an interesting arty vibe with a touch of London grit and grime against the white of the space.
The collection itself was very fresh and contemporary and comprised of colourful dresses in pastel colours, two pieces and trench coats. A real minimal vibe with clean cut lines and interesting materials, even to the touch.
Socks with sandals are an interesting detail point matched with Androgynous style to create the overall look of this piece. There’s nothing showstopping about this look, however it does make me think of the everyday. A paired down yet more upbeat version of your everyday wear. I feel London from this piece. It signifies more than just sandals and a simple skirt and shirt, but more of an empowering simplified stamp on day to day attire.
We begin to feel more upbeat the more of the collection you see, it’s happy and very wearable, appealing to the modern everyday woman. The use of geometric lines and block shapes throughout this collection excites. The trench coat however has had a complete makeover. It’s as though Lee saw our need for a more visually appealing take on the British staple. With colourful lines following the edges of the trench coat. Such a simple design feature that takes this Trench Coat to another level. It makes me want to wear it all-the-time. Different, bold; a statement but from a minimal perspective. I feel a breath of fresh air from this collection, away from normality and ‘the regular trench‘.
“This season is about the pleasure I find in the everyday moments of a London life, observing people walking down the street outside my studio. London is endlessly luxurious, yet homely and grimy at the same time. It is abundant and stark, pedestrian and refined, hectic and lonely, polite and rough, formal and colloquial, joyful and frustrating, slow and fast. Everything you need is in London. You can get fed up and escape it, only to come back with a sigh of relief. It’s my definition of fun, and I wanted to make a fun collection.” Edeline Lee
Finally, Frills were all the rage across the SS17 shows and evident here in selections of Lee‘s presentation. The soft femininity and bursts of colour really evoke a powerful yet playful modern woman, confident and stylish. I want to be her.
